Overwhelmed

February 13, 2008 · 2 Comments

Sometime very soon, I’m going to blog about all the amazingly wonderful things that have happened and support I’ve received in these last few months, because it is incredible. I am so deeply, humbly grateful.

But one more bummer post first, because I’m tired, I’m cramping, and I’ve never worked as hard in my life as I have since last Thursday when Mom was discharged.

This is my day:
7:00am: Out of bed, get dressed (I’m not a morning person, alas).
7:15: Give Mom and anti-nausea pill and some Ensure.
7:30: Feed kids and shoot the cat (insulin).
7:45: Help Mom to the bathroom and get her dressed.
8:00: Check blood pressure and temp, morning meds, clean Mom’s tracheotomy. I HATE doing this. It’s not difficult, but it’s stressful (and yeah, kinda gross).
9:00: More meds. PT/OT home visits Monday-Thursday.
9:30: Make beds and start laundry.
10:00: Figure out dinner and start it if crock-potting.
10:30-Noon: Whatever the kids want! They’ve been in the care of Nanny PBS up ’til this point.
12:00PM: Lunch for all. Encourage Mom to eat at the table instead of in bed. Hope she eats anything at all.
1:00: Wakko down for a nap. Move laundry, do dishes. Homeschooling with Yakko. Try to get Mom back to the table for a board game or some cards with Yakko (she spends a large part of her day lying in bed trying not to throw up). Finish up the laundry.
4:00: Meds for Mom. Start dinner, set the table. Unpack a box.
5:30: Dinner, dishes and family time.
6:30: Reading and bedtime for Yakko. Unpack a box.
8:00-9:30: Meds and trach cleaning for Mom. Bedtime for Wakko.
9:30-11:00: Personal time. Smooch Pokermon.
11:00PM: Meds for Mom, hit the sack.

I’m normally pretty disorganized and lazy.  So this is hard.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m behind on the laundry.

Seriously Universe, Ease Up.

The boys and I went to the panhandle last weekend, and my dear father fixed Tumbleweed’s bum knee on Monday.  I was a weak-minded owner, trying to spare her the annoyance of an E-collar, and I trusted her to leave the stitches alone.  She lulled me with good behavior for 4 days.

Helloooo, after-hours vet clinic!   Get used to that collar, dog, it’s your lovely accessory for the next 2 weeks.  I worked out the bill to about $30 per staple.

Wakko is fine.  Yakko is still miserable.  Mom was in the ER today because she tried to cough her trach right out of her throat.  She had to muddle through that experience without me — I still haven’t figured out how to clone myself.
